Comments: Understandably, Larry Norman knew he had to find a
different cover than the original one if he was to reissue The
Merchants
Of Venus's only album, Wish Across The Land (featuring his
brother,
Charles), on his Solid Rock label. [Actually, the woman in the
cover
art picture is holding a Wish Across The Land LP. So, if
you
can't tell from the scan on this page, you should definitely be able to
get a clearer view looking at an actual copy of this reissue...at least
enought to get the jist of the original cover art.] So, in
addition
to digging up a few tracks that weren't on the original, Larry also
renamed
the group as well as the album. He might have been required to do
this, since there is an American band named Merchants Of Venus.
This
isn't a Christian record. There are several songs with spiritual
implications, but most of it is plain old secular rock 'n roll, but
with
relatively harmless lyrics, and a pretty good groove, too. Two
tracks
on the original ("Coming For Christine" and "Still Recall") were left
off,
and two new tracks (tracks 1 and 8) were added on this remastered
re-release.
The music for track 7 was also re-recorded with a drum machine, as
opposed
to the band version on the original. The bonus tracks are simply
Larry singing his more "Christianized" version of the lyrics over the
same
album music.
