(see

for
select post-2000 artists)
Welcome to the largest and probably only contribution I will make to Christian music. I hope this will become one of the handiest places on the www to look up the discography of Christian artists, primarily the older ones. If you are going to bookmark this site, I'd suggest setting the bookmark for www.ccmdiscography.com. If I ever need to change hosts for some reason, the first thing I will do after relocating my site is update my two domains - www.ccmrockman.com & www.ccmdiscography.com - both of which I will hopefully retain for the remainder of my days in this life, or at least for the rest of the lifespan of the freely available internet.
I first got the idea for this project when I saw the r.m.c. discography attempt. I really found the r.m.c. discography useful when I first started looking at older more collectable Christian groups, primarily in the Christian rock category. But as I became more familiar with the artists, I also noticed all the holes and date inaccuracies in the list. I thought I would take this list and expand it to include all Christian music artists who had their first major release from the beginnings of contemporary Christian music as we know it through the year 2000. I won't attempt to expand the list much past 2000 given the explosion in the number of new artists since the early 90's, with a few exceptions that are listed on the post-2000 artists page above below the main menu. So this list will largely only cover the discographies of Christian artists/groups who had their first publicly available work - be it a demo, EP, or whole album - released on CS, CD, etc., by the year 2000 or earlier. This is simply because I have to draw the line on this project somewhere. And the first year of the new millennium (as some of us see it!) seems as good a stopping point as any. This list is probably most accurate and comprehensive for Christian rock, which is my chief interest.
The main lists will consist of the discography, including demos and EPs, of groups that have at least one professionally produced release. I have tried to give the home country of all international (outside the U.S.) artists in this list. They must have at least one album sung mostly or entirely in English to be included in the discography. I currently have several non-English releases in the list of several prominent artists who had multiple language versions of their releases but am in the process of moving the releases with non-English vocals to a separate page. I have also tried to distinguish different groups with the same name by including their home country, or state if in the U.S.
This discography listing is NOT (I'll say it again - NOT) based
on
my
personal
collection. I have tried to gather all my discography
listings
from reliable internet sources, or printed catalogs that I have
collected
over the years. Personally, I favor the listing format of
the
r.m.c.
discography, with the artists and their albums listed on one page
as
opposed
to a listing of just the band names with half a million links to
individual
band discography pages. This makes the site a little more
manageable for me. Another thing that makes my lists
unique
on the web (from what I've seen so far) is how I've tried to
indicate
which
albums are officially available on pressed CD, which is a very big
interest to
me and most other CCM collectors.
**Notes about album
info
pages and the latest updates (February
2021
update)**
In order to facilitate the completion of my reposting of the old
album
info pages in conjuction with finalizing links on the latest
update to my personal
collection
page, I have been attempting to prepare updates to all
discography
pages that have not had
significant updates within the last few years...which is pretty
much
all of them.
While
many pages have been updated with some of the latest releases of
the
artists I regularly follow and/or collect, they may also be
noticeably
incomplete on many other artists I am not as regular or
enthusiastic a
follower of since I never seem to be able to find enough time on a
regular basis over the course of several consecutive months to
stick to
updating this project utilizing all the newest online information
sources that have developed over the last decade - primarily the
new
ultimate source for online discographies of all genres, Discogs.com. The first
several pages of the ECMD (through "I", I believe), are the most
updated as I was only able to make it that far a few years ago on
my
latest update "restart" in 2018 before getting sidetracked with
other
typical
life things. In March of 2020, I embarked on a reverse-order
update attempt of my pages (beginning with "Z" and got through "T"
before becoming sidetracked)
where, in addition to significant updates for certain artists with
a
primary focus on those I collect, I have also begun indicating all
known formats for
each release as vinyl has been enjoying a huge resurgence in
interest
to
both collectors and music enthusiasts these days, and there are
many
releases in the late 80s and early 90s that were not issued on
vinyl in
the U.S. where vinyl was going out of favor at that time but was
still
one of the preferred medias of choice in other countries, usually
the
UK. And, of course, most releases after 1991 to 1992 were
not
issued on vinyl at all, and limited edition vinyl reissues of
these
post-'91/'92 albums are now popping up everywhere. Many new
releases of the last several years are now being offered initially
with
a
typically limited-edition vinyl pressing. Another reason for
my
new
indication of known media formats in my lists is that several
reissue
labels are now focusing on vinyl in addition to CD reissues, and
sometimes a title will be reissued only on vinyl and not CD if
earlier
CD issues are still plentiful and not hard to find online in a low
cost
range, or have already been recently reissued on CD. Another
change that will be in progress is that I will be transferring the
titles only available on official CD-R from the "Other
Collectables"
page to
the respective artist's listing since I will now be indicating
which
format (CD or CD-R) the "*" listings are referencing. While
I
have fortunately been able to continue full time work throughout
the
ongoing Covid-19 health crisis, I also seem to have a bit of a new
drive
to make it entirely through my discography pages with this new
focus on
indicating formats, which is why I'm hoping to post a partial
update
("A" through "I" and "T" through "Z" pages) very soon. While
I'm
not sure how long it will take to make it through
the rest of my "middle" pages, I am fairly determined to continue
plodding away at every opportunity until it is done, and to also
revisit the first pages to
add known media formats to key artists on those as well.
With
the advent of Discogs.com, whatever future plans and dreams I may
have
had for my
old album info pages now seems painfully obsolete. So I may
get
to a point in the not-too-distant future, as I attempt to continue
with
more complete updates of each discography page whenever time and
life
will allow, of reposting additional album/release info pages I
have
from way back when that were held back for some future grand
vision of
this site that now seems highly improbable to me at this time with
all
the other available more modern-looking information sources
available
to all of us now (which, in my book, is a very good thing!).
While I
would love the idea of continuing to make album info pages for all
the
music items I currently have, the reality of 24 hours in a day and
our
fairly limited and unknown lifespan, in addition to the
previously-stated alternate, better looking sources for such
information, makes this mission seem rather quaint and unimportant
to
me now outside of the time-prohibitive nature of such ambitions
for
those of us who still must make a living attempting to work 40
hours a
week in an area which does not happen to coincide with our hobby
of
choice.
Disclaimers
Technically, I can only guarantee the CD availability of those
albums
in my collection and those which I have sold or seen in used CD
stores,
which would probably consist of less than 1/10 of what's
listed.
All other titles that I have listed as being available in CD
format
were
listed as such somewhere on the internet (on an artist home page,
an
online
store, etc.) or in a printed catalog that I have. Just
because my
list may not mention an album being available on CD doesn't
necessarily
mean that it isn't. I may also have a few
albums
listed as being available on CD which are not (officially).
And
beware of bootleggers as well.
They've become more and more prominent on eBay, and I am hoping to
eventually post a separate page that will list known bootleg
versions
and bootleggers of
rare Christian albums on eBay and the internet which I have found
over
the years. It is my full intention, whenever I indicate a
CD-R in
my discography listings, to only do so when I am certain an
"official"
CD-R pressing of the release was made available from the artist or
record label. Obviously, there are a lot of CD-R bootlegs
out
there that are not official, but there were several labels selling
Christian music in the late 90s and afterward - primarily Larry
Norman's Solid Rock label - and many other instances of
independent
releases direct from an artist or from a smaller independent label
that
were only offered on CD-R rather than pressed CD. I used to
relegate such listings to my "Other Collectables" page, but the
number
of official CD-R releases and reissues has gotten to be so
numerous
that it does not make sense to me to try and separate them from my
main
lists anymore. I
intended
for the year of release shown in each entry of my lists to match
the
year indicated on the
actual
release, regardless of whether the album was completed
earlier.
Hopefully
all dates shown will be at least +/- 1 year from the one given on
the
actual
release, if there is one. The exception to this rule is
reissues.
For those, I hope to list the year it was re-released, which may
not be
the date listed on the reissue. I can't guarantee that all
titles,
spellings, etc., are accurate. I do not guarantee that every
group
listed on this page is a Christian group; a few of the sources for
my
list
came from catalogs which were also selling some secular titles,
and I
may
have
unknowingly included several of those.

How You Can Help
This list is far from complete and probably has many errors. If you would like to help me out with one or more of the following, then please email me. In the past I have been quite slow in replying. I'll try to do so more swiftly in the future, and let you know that I did receive the email. After the discography has been updated, I hope to implement all corrections/additions sent to me by the beginning of next month. Email me if I need to:
- add a new artist (see requiremenst above for inclusion in the
listings)
- remove an artist on the main list whose discography doesn't meet
my listing specifications
- add missing titles/dates or fix an incorrect one
- add/remove the CD availability indication of an album
- spelling error or incorrect label
- add another version (label) for a title
- any other imperfection (mistake or omission) on the list
- add a new link, or remove/update a dead link to an official or
unofficial
band home page
- recommend another official source for making this list more
complete
and accurate
